Artistic Ecologies* uses artistic means and collaborations with the neighborhood to create a sustainable educational space. Here, issues of education, participation, networking and ecology will be set in a local context and adressed from global, decolonial and collective perspectives. A former trade fair pavilion from 1971 will be erected and transformed into an outdoor classroom with the Konrad-Wachsmann-Schule and the Bildungsverein Bautechnik on the green space called “Place Internationale” close to station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf. The pavilion will be made available to school classes and interested groups as a learning and meeting place. It seeks to exemplifiy a school that reflects the diversity and interaction of its ecological surroundings and its neighborhood.
Three artistic interventions will activate this new educational space. Initiatives and institutions from the district will be brought together at collaborative cooking performances by Sujatro Ghosh with local cooking groups, including locally harvested food. In exchange with residents living around the green land, the rampe:aktion group will translate decolonial concepts and practices of urban resistance from Latin America into audio-visual stories with the help of collaborative film and sound works created in workshops in Colombia and Hellersdorf. Marina Resende Santos and Margarete Kiss will appropriate “Place Internationale” during a project week with 7th grade pupils from Caspar-David-Friedrich-Schule in Hellersdorf. Using playful artistic methods in an outdoor laboratory set-up, pupils will measure the capacity of the green space´s plants to absorb CO₂, learn to recognize plant types, and sharpen their perception of the space and the environment.
The project will be thematically complemented by an open-air summer cinema program on the green space, curated by Florian Wüst. A selection of films will present international perspectives from the Global South on ecology, education, the right to land, and on relationships between people and nature.

Die Stadt Taranto in Süditalien ist Standort eines gigantischen Stahlwerks. Der Film nähert sich diesem Sachverhalt durch die Erkundung des Ökosystems des Flusses Tara, dessen Wasser die Einheimischen heilende Kräfte zuschreiben. Trotz der dunklen Präsenz des nur wenige Kilometer entfernte Industriekolosses kämpfen einige Bewohner_innen um das Fortleben der Hoffnung für die Stadt, die einst als „Perle des Mittelmeeres“ bekannt war. „Wir haben uns gefragt, wie wir anders auf ökologische Krisen blicken können. Durch die Erkundung der legendenumrankten Flusslandschaft des Tara in direkter Nachbarschaft zum Stahlwerk ILVA hat sich ein Raum geöffnet, der uns ermöglichte, die subtilen Schattierungen individueller Geschichten in das Narrativ der vergifteten Stadt einzubetten. In Tara zeigen wir Menschen, die versuchen, der kontaminierten Realität etwas Positives entgegenzusetzen. Mit großer Empathie sind wir den weniger sichtbaren Orten, ihren Bewohner*innen und ihren Sichtweisen begegnet. Es ging uns um intensive Bilder, die förmlich eintauchen in die sozialen und lokalen Sphären zwischen Natur und Industrie, zwischen Mythologie und Moderne, um sie im Film als Gegensatzpaare miteinander zu verkoppeln.“ (Volker Sattel & Francesca Bertin)

Touching Land situates the objective of a sustainable educational location on the green space outside Cottbusser Platz underground station within the context of international artistic and activist practices focusing on the issues of ecology, technology, land use, and class. Josefina Buschmann’s The Fallen Clouds examines the materiality of digital infrastructures, visiting deep-sea cables and the mineral substance of Chile’s Atacama Desert. In Becoming Extinct (Wild Grass) Elke Marhöfer’s camera scans the South Russian steppe as a place in which to imagine an inclusive relationship between humans and nature. The new film by Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca, Fala da Terra (screened here for the first time in Berlin, like The Fallen Clouds), is a joint project with Coletivo Banzeiros, a theater group from the region of Pará in the Brazilian Amazon that was founded by members of the Landless Workers’ Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra, MST) to explore forms of cultural education and political militancy.
The films will be shown with English subtitles. The following discussion will be conducted in German and English.

Gehen ~ Hören mit der Wuhle. Mimetische Akte der Gegenseitigkeit mit ~pes und Mitgliedern der Bürgerinitiative Kienberg-Wuhletal ist ein Klangspaziergang entlang eines Abschnitts der Wuhle, einem kleinen rechten Nebenfluss der Spree, der durch Marzahn-Hellersdorf fließt. Durch Hörübungen mit den verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen dieses Wasserbeckens werden Erinnerungen, Vorstellungen und Reaktionen auf soziale und ökologische Herausforderungen wachgerufen und eine Einstimmung auf das Unhörbare der murmelnden Welten gefördert. Während des Klangspaziergangs werden ein kollektives Skript und eine daraus abgeleitete Klanglandschaft komponiert, die darauf abzielen, Ökosysteme als Begegnungen mit verschiedenen Zeitlichkeiten und zahlreichen Lebewesen einzubeziehen, die sich im Prozess des Werdens, Hinterfragens und Überwindens konventioneller, eng gefasster Darstellungen von Landschaft befinden.

Die vierte und letzte Filmnacht von Artistic Ecologies präsentiert vier Kurzfilme, die sich mit Möglichkeiten und Grenzen, Räumen und Praktiken gesellschaftlicher Veränderung beschäftigen. Das Programm entwirft ein Spannungsfeld zwischen Dokumentation und Fiktion.
Ausgehend von Archivmaterialien und Comics des Zeichners Ulianov Chalarka sucht Christian Diaz Orejarena in revisión remix re-existencia nach audiovisuellen Entsprechungen der bäuerlichen Widerstandsgeschichte Kolumbiens in der urbanen Gegenwart. This Place is Every Place inszeniert einen Dialog zweier junger Frauen in der Stockholmer Satellitenstadt Tensta. Sowohl der Arabische Frühling als auch die Unruhen in den migrantisch geprägten Vororten Stockholms vom Mai 2013 bilden einen gedanklichen Hintergrund für Ane Hjort Guttus filmische Studie über persönliche und politische Krisen nach Ende der sozialen Moderne. Die seinerzeit erste McDonald’s-Filiale des Ruhrgebiets ist Kulisse für Silke Schönfelds Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence: Ehemalige Mitarbeiter_innen und junge Kulturschaffende diskutieren über Geschichte und Zukunft des seit mehr als zehn Jahren leerstehenden Ladenlokals im Zentrum von Herne. Mit dem Projekt re-existencia Hellersdorf erprobt das Kollektiv rampe:aktion die Übertragbarkeit dekolonialer Konzepte und Praktiken aus dem lateinamerikanischen Raum in die Peripherie Berlins. Das Video entstand – wie revisión remix re-existencia – im Rahmen von Workshops mit Jugendlichen.
Die Filme werden mit englischen Untertiteln gezeigt. Das anschließende Publikumsgespräch findet auf Deutsch/Englisch statt.
