About 50 activists, initiatives, artists, theorists and opinion leaders from throughout the world have been invited to redefine the concepts of work and of being active under the motto “practice, method, scope”. The project began in January 2008 with a series of lectures and workshops. Since August, a number of interventions have taken place in Berlin public space. From 13 December, the participants will be showing what they understand by a collaborative and mutually supportive space to think, explore the scope of possibilities and act, in the exhibition space at NGBK.
The exhibition presents both the processes involved - workshops, campaigns, radio and film productions, artists’ actions and political interventions in urban space, as well as the results – films, posters, songs and other acoustic works, sculptures and documentary material.

“Die Kampagne ‘unvermittelt’ hat in den vergangenen Monaten Fragen rund um die Arbeitswelt thematisiert - mittels Performances und Befragungen im öffentlichen Raum. Die Ausstellung […] ist eine Präsentation dieser Aktionen. Konsens der mehr oder weniger utopisch agierenden Projektgruppen ist die Erkenntnis, dass sich eine Gesellschaft nicht ausschließlich über Arbeit und Leistung definieren sollte. […] Die vorhandenen Ansätze aufzugreifen, bleibt die Ausstellung aber schuldig. Es fehlen die konstruktiven Ideen, die aus dieser […] Kampagne hervorgegangen sind, während zeitgleich mit der Wirtschaftskrise Argumente gegen eine neoliberale Ordnung salonfähig geworden sind.”

“Bezahlte Arbeit gibt es zwar nicht mehr für alle, aber dennoch entscheidet diese bis heute darüber, ob jemand für die Gesellschaft wertvoll ist oder nicht. “Inakzeptabel” findet Hehl das und setzt das Motto der Workstation dagegen: ‘Mach doch, was du willst.’“

“Unsere Kritik wird in politischen, wissenschaftlichen, gewerkschaftlichen und künstlerischen Kontexten abgefragt und ziemlich ernst genommen. Weil die Leute merken, wenn man sich vom klassischen Arbeitsbegriff nicht in die Enge treiben lässt, funktionieren Abhängigkeitssysteme, auf die die Wirtschaft baut, nicht mehr.”
